Nicole Zaray is a multidisciplinary artist who makes music, theatrical performances and films inspired by old cities, post-industrial yearnings, and trashy scifi. Nicole grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, and has performed solo music work at Mother/Jackie 60 (where s/he was dubbed a Butch Legend), Performance Space NY, La Mama, Roulette, The Firehouse Space, Spectrum, the Bushwick Music Series, and more. In 2023, s/he was an artist-in-residence at the UnCOOL Festival in Poschiavo, Switzerland, home of the Sun Ra Arkestra, and has taught theater at Centro Em Movimento in Lisbon, Portugal, performed music at “Kopanice bez Hranice” in Slovakia, and at Lake Studio in Berlin. Zaray Directed the short film “Joe’s Day” starring Deborah Harry, was featured vocalist on Moby’s CDs “Feeling So Real” and “Next is the E” (Mute/Elektra), vocalist / dancer in Theodora Skipitares’ “Under the Knife” and Karen Finley’s “Momento Mori”, and lead actor in the sci-fi flick “The Sticky Fingers of Time” which premiered at the Venice Biennale and was released worldwide. Nicole also runs a social enterprise, offering services in policy and technology to community-based housing and health organizations.
